What is Reverse Osmosis?

Home / Drinking Water / What is Reverse Osmosis?

The term “Reverse Osmosis” is often misunderstood.  What is it exactly and why do you need it?

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is the process of removing various impurities from drinking water. Most water contains manmade and natural contaminants, which you don’t want in your drinking water.

Reverse Osmosis works by having your household’s water pressure push tap water through a semi-permeable membrane, about the thickness of cellophane. This membrane only allows water to pass through, leaving the impurities and contaminants to flush away.

This process of purifying water improves the taste, odour and appearance of your drinking water.  It’s a highly effective purification process, which doesn’t add to your home’s energy consumption, is convenient, and doesn’t collect the pollutants. Don’t forget…your RO filters will need to be changed annually!
