One of the more frequently asked questions we get asked is “What type of salt should I use in my softener?”
The main types of salt we are asked about are:
- Rock Salt
- Pellet Salt
Rock Salt:
This type of salt is similar to that used for melting ice on roads and driveways. There are high levels of water-insoluble minerals in Rock Salt that will not go through your water softener and will sit in the brine tank causing blockages and deposits. This will mean you will have to do more maintenance/cleaning of your system to ensure it is working properly. So, although rock salt might be a little less expensive, it will end up costing you more money in the long run.
Pellet Softener Salt:
This type of salt is specifically designed for your water softening system. Pellet Softener Saltis highly refined compared to Rock Salt, consequently leaving your water softening system cleaner and running more efficiently.
While Canadian Water Contitioning Inc. does not supply salt for your water treatment system, it is available at many grocery or hardware stores.
If you ever have any questions about which salt to use or any other water treatment questions, we are always happy to help. You can reach us at 1-800-583-4849 or reach us through our contact form.
There is certainly a lot to find out about this topic.
